Application Requirements

KIU operates on a trimester system. Students are admitted starting in April (Spring Trimester), September (Fall Trimester) and January (Winter Trimester).

Deadlines

Kyoto International University (KIU) has a “rolling admissions” process and accepts applications year-round based on the following deadlines.

* The application deadline is earlier to allow for visa processing of applicants living outside Japan.

How to Apply

All completed documentation and items must be sent by registered mail:

1. Application form for admission (*Signature required)
2. Official High School Transcript (*Transfer students - Transcript from the last school attended)
3. Standardized Test Results (*Enclose photocopy - TOEFL / TOEIC / SAT / STEP / IELTS etc.)
4. Two (2) Passport Photos (2.4cm X 3cm)
5. Application fee: JPY30,000 (Bank transfer *Overseas candidates please contact us for details)

6. Interview or Essay (*Essay for those not interviewing)
   

   Topic:     “What makes you special?”
   Length:   800 words (*Essay must be word processed and mailed with the application.)

Decision

Candidates are admitted based on their academic achievements as well as their potential to contribute to campus life at KIU.  Other criteria include marks (GPA, SAT, TOEFL), extracurricular activities and a personal essay or interview.  Applicants will be notified via email within fifteen (15) working days after the receipt of all application materials and fees.

Acceptance

Upon acceptance, all students will be required to submit a health record.  Applicants living outside Japan will need to submit visa-related documentation (available on the university website).  Visa processing takes a minimum of four (4) months depending on country of origin.
