Professional Biography

David Taylor is Dean and Professor of International Business at Kyoto International University (KIU).  Taylor teaches marketing and management courses as well as serves as a visiting professor at Cornell University.  His research interests are in the area of consumer behavior and services management leadership.  His current research focuses on the marketing-leadership interface across cultures – particularly, how consumers and leaders react to unexpected bad events (crises).  At KIU, Taylor is active in university student recruitment, curriculum development as well as strategic alliances and international advancement initiatives with overseas institutions.  He is also involved in the evaluation of potential sites for a new campus home for the growing Kyoto International University organization.

Industry Involvement

Prior to becoming a professor, Taylor spent 15 years in industry working in or on over 25 markets in North America, Europe and Asia.  While working for Hyatt International in Japan as the Director of Business Development/International Marketing, Dr. Taylor and his marketing team were recipients of the Gold Key award as well as recognized by the prestigious Nikkei Business Weekly and the city of Osaka for success and creativity in advertising.  Prof. Taylor has also advised international companies (www.oakbridge-global.com) and co-owned a small real estate management and investment firm.

Service / Interests

Dr. Taylor has served and led in a wide variety of business and civic organizations both inside and outside Japan.  Currently, he enjoys serving at Osaka International Church and sits on the board of trustees for the Kyoto International University organization.  He is an avid baseball fan and has an interest in real estate investment.  Most recently, he and his wife remodeled a café on the outskirts of Kyoto and now live there with their two sons.
