Mission

Kyoto International University's purpose is to educate individuals through a Biblical worldview and in the western-style liberal arts tradition.

Kyoto International University aims to prepare individuals to become informed and discerning citizens. Graduates learn to think for themselves and leave prepared to serve and contribute to the lives of others both inside Japan and within the global community.

Discerning Citizens

The people who function well in other cultures are those who first understand their own government, their own history, and their own religion and society, and then, upon that framework, learn and understand other cultural, racial and ethnic groups in the global society. KIU is dedicated to teaching students their own historical, political, religious and cultural backgrounds so that they may become, first and foremost, good citizens of their own countries. After this foundation is laid, they learn about Japan (or the West) and the discipline in which they have chosen to major. Basic communication skills are taught in both English and Japanese so that whichever language group students are from, they will learn to achieve a high level of competency in both.

Learning to Think

At KIU, professors do not teach students what they are to think. Rather, students are taught how to think, analyze, and to pose the question "Why?" Not only are the faculty determined to make the students think, but the very environment at KIU, with it's rich multinational, multicultural setting, exposes each student to a myriad of different outlooks on life, causing each to think and evaluate their own worldviews.

Christian Foundation

KIU is a conservative Christian university, with a mission to acquaint students with the basic teachings of the Bible in relation to morals and values. KIU is dedicated to giving students an opportunity to find stability and meaning in life in our ever-changing society.
